The Dust Fall Monitoring System (MDFS) helps solar plant operators determine the best time to clean PV panels by measuring the impact of soiling on solar radiation. The system compares the output of two temperature-compensated reference cells, available with voltage output (MDFS2) or Modbus communication (MDFS2-S).
One reference cell (the Clean Cell) must always be kept clean, while the second (the Dirty Cell) is cleaned at the same time as the PV panels. By comparing the two signals, MDFS provides a clear indication of performance losses due to dust and dirt.
MDFS can be used in two ways:
-
Basic mode: the operator manually compares the Clean and Dirty cell readings to decide when cleaning is needed (no control box required).
-
Advanced mode: with the optional control box, the system automatically calculates the soiling attenuation rate (%), supporting cleaning decisions and confirming that cleaning and maintenance activities have been carried out.
